Animal Caregiver Position Available
for 15-20 hours per week. More hours and housing available for the right candidate. This is a winter semester position.
The sanctuary cows ‘work’ as ambassadors between cows and people. People come to visit them and learn about them. People interact with the cows (with our supervision). We teach the cows to be cooperative and safe.
The first responsibility is to care for the cows for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening.
Responsibilities include:
Feeding, watering and caring for cows, horse, cats. Mucking stalls, raking and cleaning in and around barns. Able to perform strenuous physical labor and lifting. Able to follow detailed instructions and maintain animal care schedules. Able to communicate effectively regarding animal health and welfare. Additional duties may include odd jobs around the sanctuary and managing volunteers. Able to work in all weather conditions. Able to work during odd times for any urgent situations. Commitment to Govinda Goshala animal care policy. Must have excellent animal behavior observation skills. Handyman skills and carpentry are welcome but not required.
There are two other possible responsibilities with this position that can lead to extra hours:
There is an opportunity to learn a strategic animal training system for teaching cows to be safe and happy, for the person who enjoys interacting with the animals. This technique is very powerful and it is a special perk of this position.
There is an opportunity to work on outreach, including developing educational materials, promoting the sanctuary on social media, and participating in on site programs.
